NuPark, the leading provider of smart parking management solutions, announced today that that they have been awarded a contract to provide their fully integrated, LPR-based, parking management system to the University of Maryland, College Park. With a planned reduction of more than 3,000 parking spaces by 2018, and an enrollment of more than 38,000 total students, the University’s Department of Transportation Services faces the challenge of how to best utilize their available spaces. As one of the original users and a long-time proponent of license plate recognition technology, the University will now be able to maximize the efficiencies of their current pay-by-plate system by deploying NuPark’s unique, open access, automated, virtual permitting platform.
Fully Integrated LPR-Based Smart Parking Enforcement and Occupancy
NuPark’s unique LPR technology and management platform gives the University a higher level of flexibility along with additional capabilities that will assist in effectively managing fewer spaces. They will be able to not only enforce but also issue, modify, or remove parking permissions in real time. Additionally, the NuPark system gives them the ability to report occupancy data, including the type of permit and when it was used.
“We switched from our long-time vendor to NuPark because both our immediate and future needs required a change from our current system,” said David Allen, Executive Director of Transportation Services. “NuPark’s native, real-time, LPR-based system gives us the flexibility and tools to manage our shrinking resources and still maintain the high level of service our customers demand. Their ability to provide solutions to our challenges, dedication to innovate as we evolve, and high-level support, made this an easy decision.”
Amanda Long, Assistant Director Parking Administration, agreed. “After feeling like we were being underserved by our existing provider, we decided to make the switch. NuPark demonstrated a commitment to customer service, and we were incredibly impressed by the level of industry and product-specific knowledge displayed by NuPark representatives at all levels. Additionally, NuPark allowed us to maintain all of the unique and somewhat complicated aspects of our existing parking system while also providing innovative opportunities for growth.”
“We are ecstatic and looking forward to getting started with our newest partner, the University of Maryland," said Jim Leida, Vice President of Sales for NuPark. "David and his team have led the way in innovation for years, and we look forward to taking them to the next level by providing them with the tools needed to integrate their parking operation into their overall transportation demand initiatives.”
